Last week I took a class with CZT Shannon Flynn. In that class she taught the tangle βKivkaβ created by CZT Joanna Quincey. A tribute to the people of Ukraine. I felt inspired by both Shannon and Joanna to research Ukrainian art. What beautiful art it is. The patterns and colors are breathtaking.

When researching I had no intent on creating a new tangle. It just happened. I have spent so much time glued to the news felling the sorrow for the people of Ukraine. The list of upsetting things is endless. One of the saddest is thinking of all those mothers leaving behind the men in their lives and now trying to get by with their children. Such strong brave woman. Made me think about the strong woman in my life. People who molded me, supported me, and kept me safe. My mom, and my grandma, who molded her. You know that whole apple and tree thing, right?
Based on looking through Ukrainian art, I created my stepout named, βPatdejor.β Itβs a combination of my moms first name, her married last name and maiden name. And it made me think of βMom of the Day!β Like Soup de jour! I wanted to wait and share it with her on Motherβs day but that just seems too far away lol. We will be using both of these tangles in a tile in April 26thβs Tangle Time Tuesday, and I just canβt wait!!!

My sketching led me to this step out called βEleneβ pronounced el-lean. After my grandmother Helene.

I think many of us feel helpless not being able to help more. Our donations are wonderful but we must not forget what is happening as time passes by. As the news stories fade on our televisions, the people of Ukraine are still living through the war. For me, drawing tributes to them, helps me to continue to remember and pray.
